Giamatteo
RealNetworks today announced that its chief operating officer, John Giamatteo, plans to resign from the company on April 2. No reason was given for the departure in a Securities and Exchange Commission filing issued this afternoon, though spokesman Bill Hankes said that he's leaving the company for another opportunity.
Giamatteo joined Real in 2005 from Nortel Networks where he served as president of the company's Asia Pacific business. He had served as COO of the Seattle digital media company since June 2008.
No one has been named to replace Giamatteo at this point, with Hankes saying that a number of executives on his team will be filling in during the transition period over the next three months.
“John has been an excellent executive at Real for more than four years," said CEO Rob Glaser in a statement. "Among his many accomplishments, John built a strong Technology Products and Services division that delivers digital entertainment to mobile carriers around the world. He has also built a strong leadership bench that I will be working with to ensure a smooth transition and to make sure we continue executing on our business plans. All of us at Real will miss John and wish him well in his next endeavor.”
