It seems like a contradiction in terms to hand out an award for the sexiest blogger. After all, most of the bloggers I know are sweat-pants-wearing obsessives who rarely shower, brush their teeth or comb their hair. (Ok, I'll admit that's basically describing my lifestyle on most days). But I guess there are some bloggers out there who take a little bit better care of themselves. And those were the people nominated for tonight's Sexiest Blogger award at the first annual Seattle Weekly Best of the Web Awards at the Hard Rock Cafe in downtown Seattle.
Interestingly, tonight's winner isn't even blogging anymore, at least not for the publication for which she's best known. Monica Guzman, who led the Seattle P-I's Big Blog for a number of years and announced last month that she's leaving the publication for stealthy startup Intersect, was chosen as the city's sexiest linker and wordsmith.
"It is a little bit bittersweet to think that I just left the visible blogger position at the P-I, but more than that it is awkward," said Guzman after taking home the most-anticipated prize of the night.
In fact, Guzman noted that she thought Robot Co-op co-founder Buster Benson was most deserving.
Monica Guzman and Jason Preston
And for all you geeks wondering, yes she's taken. Immediately upon earning the honor, Guzman planted a big kiss on her fiance Jason Preston.
Preston later joked that he planned to get a pitchfork in order to protect his bride to be.
Other winners tonight included:
--West Seattle Blog, Seattle's best neighborhood blog.
Jason Reid of Sonicsgate
--Sonicsgate, Seattle's best online presence, sports. (Fresh off their win at the Webby Awards in New York in which former point guard Gary Payton declared: "Bring back our Seattle Supersonics.")
--Seattle 2.0, Seattle's best online presence, networking.
--Grist.org, Seattle's best online presence, green/environment.
--Seattle Crime, Seattle's best online presence, news.
--MyNorthwest.com, Seattle's best online presence, politics.
-Ben Huh, founder of Cheezburger Network, also took home some hardware including an award for the most shameless self promoter. In his acceptance speech, Huh copied the famous Webby speech of Stephen Colbert from 2008 in which he simply said: "Me, Me, Me, Me, Me." (Huh too also just won another Webby award).
Complete list of winners here.
Full disclosure, I served as a judge for this year's award ceremony in the categories of mobile app, non-profit, Fashion/Clothing and Bakery.
Here's Guzman accepting the award.
