ValueAppeal, which helps home owners file appeals on their property taxes, has raised $560,000 in new financing. The Seattle company, which had previously raised $1 million, plans to use the cash to fund a national expansion of the service.
"We are very encouraged by the success rates our customers have seen in our initial counties and are excited to expand ValueAppeal's offering to a nationwide footprint," said ValueAppeal founder and CEO Charlie Walsh. "Our additional funding will support this continued growth and our customer acquisition efforts, which involve direct consumer outreach as well as targeted partnerships with other organizations whose users could benefit substantially from ValueAppeal's services."
Utilizing patent-pending algorithms, ValueAppeal says that it can assist homeowners in creating a professional property tax appeal in a matter of minutes. That compares to days or weeks through more traditional means.

ValueAppeal's business model is pretty simple. It charges a flat $99 fee to run a report on a home, with refunds provided for those appeals which are unsuccessful. In some cases, homeowners can save hundreds of dollar.
In Clark County, Nevada, customers who utilized the ValueAppeal service saved on average more than $830 on their property taxes.
The company, which now offers service in 80 percent of the counties in the U.S., estimates that as many as 25 percent of homes in the U.S. are overassessed.
